Six Nations – The trial has finally begun for the third person charged in the murder of 2 year old Marissa Whalen, whose remains were found on Six Nations territory on October 16, 2011. Her remains were positively identified in January of 2012. Investigators determined however, that she hadn’t been seen since the previous July.
Three women, including Marissa’s mother were charged in the toddler’s death. Marissa’s mother, Roseanne Whalen who was 23 at the time of her arrest was charged with second-degree murder, criminal negligence causing death and accessory after the fact to murder.
Amanda Dipota who was 30 at the time of her arrest was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and indignity to human remains. She pled guilty back in June 2013 and was sentenced to 3 years, 4 months and 2 days of incarceration.
Dipota’s sister, Rainbow Hill, who was 28 at the time of her arrest was also charged with second-degree murder. She was sentenced to life in prison in August 2013.
The trial for Roseanne Whalen, Marissa’s mother, began yesterday in a Hamilton court and is expected to last three weeks.
