Iconic Indie Rock Veteran Lou Reed Dies at 71


Musician Lou Reed, who was seen as a pioneer with the group “The Velvet Underground” in the late 60’s and early 70’s and who had a long solo career, passed away on Sunday at the age of 71. Social media lit up with posts from artists talking about the influence Lou Reed had on them, while fans and celebrities shared posts about how his music broke open musical boundaries and provided a voice for those on the margins. Support also poured in from unlikely places, like the Vatican’s pontifical council for culture, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, and his tweet in tribute. Lou passed of liver disease at his home in New York.
