Impaled “Redskin” prop causes controversy

This controversial image is causing quite a stir on social media this week.

A overzealous Philedelphia Eagles fanatic is holding a impaled head of a ‘Redskin’ during a game with people in the background showing expressions of laughter and mild amusement.

There is a surprising backlash of supporters this image has on the internet who dismissively suggest that offended parties are just “over-sensitive” and bemoan “politically correct” calls for common decency and justice.

Perhaps it is difficult for the descendents of European immigrants to understand how painful this image is for indigenous people of this continent to behold but it could be compared to a German publicly brandishing a beheaded Jew.

There are many related stories to this one, most notably the Oneida nation has launched a campaign against cultural misappropriation in sports calling on the Washington Redskins to change their name.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder has vowed never to change the name.

Cooperstown Redskins No More: NY School Board Votes To Retire Nickname After Criticism

The student body of Cooperstown Central School in a stunning move of conscience has changed the name of their football team in a 6-1 vote.

The team name dates back to the 1920’s when it was acceptable to use native culture and imagery in demeaning ways.

It is also interesting to note that the name of the town comes from James Fenimore Cooper who famously wrote “The Last of the Mohicans”.

The Daily Star of Oneonta reports that the school has yet to choose a new nickname.

Possible replacements include Deerslayers, Hawkeyes and Pathfinders – each a nod to Cooper’s works.

Of course tons of irate people will comment about how “PC” everything is and “lighten up people” every other tired cliche of the content, entitled majority. They’ll act like something they consider precious is being stolen from them. Listen up, Christians in Name Only, NOTHING IS BEING STOLEN FROM YOU THAT CAN COMPARE TO THE STOLEN DIGNITY OF THE GREAT NATIVE PEOPLE OF THIS LAND WHOSE HERITAGE YOU KNOW NOTHING AND CARE NOTHING ABOUT. So get over your childish connections to mascots and team names which are belittling and crude and try to get civilized for once. And recognize that it doesn’t even come close to compensating for the very real cruel extermination of the majestic proud races that once graced this land that we were lucky enough to be able to steal from them.[/blockquote]
