Haudenosaune Confederacy Council put out a statement this week signed by Cayuga Royanni Blake Bomberry after Haldimand County Council moved to have blockades to the entrance of Kanohnstaton (formerly Douglas Creek Estates) removed by contractors.

This decision by the Haldimand County was made without consultation with the Six Nations community and many are taking it as a direct move to instigate conflict, despite the County’s claims that it is to provide access for emergency service vehicles to the area.

Here is the Statement from the Haudenosaune Confederacy Council in it’s entirety:

“For Immediate Release – The Haudenosaune Confederacy Chiefs Council (HCCC) have been in talks with Ontario over the maintenance and care of Kanonhstaton, Six Nations lands adjacent to the town of Caledonia formerly known as the Douglas Creek Estates, since 2006.

While the site itself remains peaceful, there have been issues of mischief recently that the HCCC’s Haudenosaune Development Institute has been working with Ontario to address.

It has just come to the attention of the Confederacy Chiefs’ that Haldimand County Council is engaged in internal discussions on the former roads on the site and wishes to re-open those unfinished areas. The Chief’s are in discussions with Ontario about Haldimand County’s decision.”
