Smoke Dancing in observance of National Truth and Reconciliation Day

Six Nations Polytechnic held their Smoke Dance Competition in observance of National Truth and Reconciliation Day on Friday, September 25th from 4-8pm. They had a great turnout of spectators and dancers. Dinner included taco in a bag and sweet treats. Free Orange shirts were given out to the first 100 visitors.

Also this week: Orange Shirt Day was celebrated at the Oneida Business Park (50 Generations Drive) from 4-7pm on September 25th with a drive-thru giveaway event. People that showed up received a Family Togetherness Package. Chief Sherri-Lyn Hill handed out the packages. Santee Smith wrote on social media of a “powerful set from Semiah last night at the Toronto Council Fire Indigenous Legacy Gathering, in honour of Truth & Reconciliation and Residential School survivors. Nia:wen Ava Hill and the team for showcasing Indigenous voices!” Santee Smith brings Blood, Water, Earth to Nogojiwanong/Peterborough on October 14th at Market Hall; tickets at publicenergy.ca/tickets.
