KELOWNA, B.C. — The legalization of marijuana has created new economic opportunities for Canada’s Indigenous population. Still, many communities lack the information necessary to capitalize on the growth of the cannabis & hemp industries. The National Indigenous Cannabis & Hemp Conference (NICHC), held on November 26 to 28 at the Delta Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, BC, will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn from Indigenous experts while networking with Indigenous delegates from across the country.
The three-day event will feature panels and workshops, networking receptions, and tours of an Okanagan cannabis retail shop, medical clinic operation and grow operation with former Westbank First Nation Chief, Roxanne Lindley. Key topics will include Sourcing Project Capital and Governance: Developing Band Policy. Full-day workshops on Hemp Production and a blueprint for implementing Community Wellness programs, in which attendees will learn strategies for reducing the harm caused by addictions to opioids, alcohol, and other harmful substances.

The NICHC is a subsidiary of Silver Shows, which has been producing events and trade shows across Canada for more than 30 years. In 2016, Silver Shows presented Cannabis Canada Forums to showcase business opportunities within Canada’s emerging cannabis industry. After a chance meeting at that event with Tsuut’ina Council members, it became clear that many Nations and communities wanted more information about participating in the cannabis and hemp industries. So, the NICHC was created to help provide the necessary tools to assist in Indigenous success within the Cannabis & Hemp Industries
