New hours and services coming to Chiefswood Park

SIX NATIONS — Chiefswood Park, home to the national museum commemorating the life of E. Pauline Johnson and Six Nations local access to the Grand River has some exciting changes for its 2019 season.

Six Nations Tourism manages the park and conducted a community survey seeking feedback on what hours should be. The results will see changes starting this year.

The park will be open daily for tour season starting Saturday, May 18 through to Saturday, October 13 from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m..

“Chiefswood Park will become a place where community members and visitors alike can learn about our rich Haudenosaunee history, the site will be a fun, interactive, and safe area for families to enjoy and spend time together,” said Constance Jamieson, Manager of Six Nations Tourism. Over the next few years through a phased approach, Six Nations Tourism will be transforming the park into a year-round facility with a number of enhancements to boost tourism while improving the space for community use.

Available in the 2019 Tour Season, Chiefswood Park will offer various rental activities to the Six Nations Community and tourists to the area including, Canoe/Kayak Rentals, Experience Packages, boat dock launch, and guided and non-guided tours through the park and/or the historic sites.

Construction in the upper level of the park will be ongoing as new cabins are completed. Officials say the work is expected to be finished by Fall 2019.
