Rivermen going to the Presidents Cup

OHSWEKEN — The Six Nations Rivermen Sr. B’s will be playing for the Presidents Cup August 31st to September 5th in St. Catharines, the host city. As hosts the St. Catharines Saints will also compete, however the Rivermen have taken the OLA Sr. B title with Saturday night’s 13-7 win over the Brooklin Merchants at the Gaylord Powless Arena.

Brooklin lost three straight to the Rivermen who will now rest up and get ready for their Presidents Cup appearance against the best Sr. B teams from across Canada, representing a number of Sr. B organizations including the Nanaimo Timbermen of the West Coast Sr. Lacrosse Association, the Snake River Muskies of the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League, the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League (team to be announced), the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (TBA), the Can/Am (TBA) and the Rivermen representing the OLA Sr. B’s.

Brooklin opened a 2-0 margin early in Saturday night game, scored at 1:07 and at 1:55. Wayne VanEvery turned the tide at 4:10 and Mike Miller, VanEvery’s second, and Tom Montour took the 4-2 lead for the Rivermen.

Brooklin’s Steve Bourden made it 4-3 before Cory Bomberry ended the period with the Rivermen ahead 5-3.

It was pretty well over by the end of the second period as the Rivermen could smell the victory. Holden Vyse, Delby Powless, Mike Miller, Roger Vyse and Jacob Crans built a 10-3 lead before Martin Whittaker scored late in the period for thr Merchants.

The two teams traded three goals each in the third but the damage was already done. Roger Vyse, Rodd Squire and Travis Bland scored the final three for the Rivermen.

The Presidents Cup schedule is not set to date.
