Welcome in to another week of sports talk. It’s mid summer, that heat is just crackin’ and we got about 5 weeks or so until the NFL football season is back in full swing. Get your fantasy football picks in order, get that new jersey ordered, unless it’s the Buffalo Bills new grey jersey that was announced. I was reading comments after the Bills posted a glimpse of their new alternate jersey that was released this past monday and about 90% of the comments were negative. The jersey looks like it was thrown into chatgpt and created after just one logo creation attempt.
In hotter Buffalo Bills news, their new stadium is now open for fans to tour for a low cost, the stadium features a 20 foot replica of a broken table which is iconic to bills fans culture of fans pregaming while jumping off the top of cars and TVs to crash through tables during lot pregame parties. The new bills stadium is said to hold an outstanding 60,108 seats and hold up to 63,000 fans seated or standing. The stadium cost an estimated $2.1 billion dollars to build, which is located just across the street from the old Highmark Bills Stadium, which is in the process of being tore down as we speak.

In NBA basketball news, Lebron James has chosen to play for the Philadelphia 76ers for the next two seasons! Lebron will now join 3 other Allstars in Philly to form another super team. The 76ers starting lineup is now Lebron James, Allstar Tyrese Maxey, Allstar Jaylen Brown, Allstar Joel Embiid & up-and-coming guard VJ Edgecombe. Lebron James’ playmaking capabilities will be front and centre in Philadelphia as the 76ers plan to start Lebron at the point guard position. Lebron will be featured as the primary ball facilitator with 4 talented scoring options and also creating a formidable two man game with Lebron and former MVP centre Joel Embiid. Lebron also notified the team that he will be residing close to New York City and will commute by helicopter to practice and games for the 2026 season, something that didn’t work out very well in the past in regard to Kobe Bryant.
In MLB Baseball news, the MLB Trade Deadline on August 3rd is quickly approaching. Thus far in major trades, Boston Red Sox traded away Starting Pitcher Connelly Early in exchange for up and coming infield slugger Curtis Mead. Detroit Tigers all star starting pitcher Tarik Skubal is also in major headline trade news as the Tampa Bay Rays, Milwaukee Brewers are at the top of teams that want him ahead of Monday’s trade deadline with LA Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies monitoring if Detroit will trade him as well. Skubal has recently stated that he doesn’t prefer to be traded, but with his contract with the team ending after this season, and the Tigers still 4 games back in the wild card race, it would be smart for the Tigers to trade him now and get some pieces back for him if he were to decide to walk this summer and sign with another team when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Through 107 games played the Toronto Blue Jays currently hold a record of 49-58 and are falling further and further back in the race for the AL Wildcard playoff spots. The Blue Jays are currently in the middle of a series in Washington with the Nationals and won Monday’s tilt 3-2. The Jays take on the Nats Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon at 1pm before heading back home for a weekend series in Toronto against the St. Louis Cardinals who have been playing well lately.

Local note: The Six Nations Rivermen defeated the Hamilton Bengals 14-5 in game 1 of round 2 at the ILA on Saturday, July 25th and won 14-9 in the second game of round 2 at the Dave Andreychuk arena in Hamilton on Sunday, July 26. The Rivermen are one win away from the OSL Final.
