WASHINGTON, D.C. – A delegation of chiefs in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy travelled to the White House in Washington, D.C. last week to honour the 222nd Anniversary of the Canandaigua Treaty of 1794.
Howard Thompson, Howard Elijah, Bob Antone, Jake Edwards, Sid Hill, Sam George and Leo Henry were received by representatives of the U.S. Department of the Interior.
The delegation presented an invitation wampum to President Barack Obama through White House officials, requesting a meeting with the President soon.
The delegation expressed they felt the Confederacy and the United States federal government need to come together and discuss matters of importance to the Confederacy including Haudenosaunee passports and ID cards.
The Treaty of Canandaigua was commemorated by George Washington in a wampum belt to ratify the end of fighting between the Haudenosaunee and the United States
