AFN National Chief Perry Bellegarde is urging governments of all levels in Canada to work with indigenous people to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
Bellegarde said governments have a historic opportunity to ensure the human rights of First Nations are respected throughout Canada.
The National Chief called on Parliamentarians to commit to working together to implement the UN Declaration, and said legislation should be drafted and Canadian law must be reformed to ensure it reflects and supports the UN Declaration.
