Novices fall one goal short, Peewees earn 4-0 shut out

OHSWEKEN ‑ Six Nations minor hockey on Sunday produced another good day of entertainment for fans and parents, as the Southern Counties coach Dennis MacDonald’s Six Nations Novice C’s and the Delhi Rockets went nose to nose at the Gaylord Powless Arena.

In a very tightly contested affair, Delhi took a 2-1 win, with all scoring done in the second period.

Ryerson Montour scored first from Mace Anthony and Trinity MacDonald and it looked like Six Nations was going to protect that lead to the end of the period, however, Delhi had other ideas.

Ryan Hale tied the game at 1-1 with 3:08 remaining in the period and then took the lead with 1: 59 remaining as Ashton Munn recorded what would stand up as the game winner.

Six Nations had their chances in the third but both goaltenders stood the period unblemished.

In the 3 o’clock game, the Six Nations Peewees convincingly defeated Delhi, 4-0 with goalie Marly Montour earning the shut out after a fine performance, keeping Delhi shooters off the score sheet.

Cole Powless ended the first period with Six Nations up 1-0, assisted by Easton Atkins and Damon Decaire. There was no scoring in the second but in the third, Six Nations poured it on with goals by G.W. King, and two by Thunder Hill, the last with 38 seconds remaining, for the 4-0 win. Also earning assists were Atkins’ second of the game, Powless with two for a three point game, and Pearson Monteforte.
