BUFFALO — The Buffalo Sabres are doing everything but scoring as of late and there seems to be no end to the slide they are on in the abbreviated NHL season. Following back-to-back 3-0 losses against the Philadelphia Flyers over the weekend, the Sabres are in last place in the east with a 6-10 and three record for 15 points, one point behind New Jersey who holds two games in hand.
Despite his team sputtering on offense, Brandon Montour and the Buffalo defense have been keeping the games closer than they actually were. But to be fair, the Sabres’ big scorers have been snake-bitten around the net. The chances are coming, but nothing is going in.
Three of the best chances in Sunday’s second game against Philly, came from defenceman, Montour, but two were stopped and a third hit the post. He also had a couple of good looks in Saturday night’s first game of the series. Friday night’s game was postponed due to negative COVID-19 tests.
The Flyers broke out with three unanswered second period goals scored by James van Riemsdyke at 3:37, Michael Raffi at 18:23, and Sean Couturier with only 22 seconds left in the frame. There was no scoring in the third.
The loss dropped the Sabres to 2-5-1 since returning from a 15-day pause on Feb. 15.
Buffalo will play the Rangers at Madison Square Gardens Tuesday, March 2nd.
