This rigorous training inspired Kaha:wi Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Santee Smith, who has award winning career as a dancer/choreographer to look at incorporating Pow Wow Style and bringing into personal fitness. This weekend Smith, who also has a degree in Kinesiology, is hosting Six Nations first Pow Wow Boot Camp with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre.

Hip hop artist James Blood of TrueRez Crew and RedStar is one of the foremost native hip hop artists in Haudenosaunee territory today. James sees hip hop as a “voice for the voiceless.” While hip hop began as a youth culture among black and latino youth in the South Bronx and Harlem in the 1970’s, James is part of the cutting edge of hip hop culture in Six Nations and he’s adding his own flavour to hip hop culture, rhyming about the struggles of being native.
Amanda Vallieres, Chippewa from Aamjiwnaang First Nation in Sarnia, Ont., is a national finalist for the Miss Universe Canada 2014 pageant. Vallieres, 26, has the heart of a humanitarian. She advocates for the environment with her Toronto business and volunteers for a First Nations children’s program.
