SIX NATIONS — At 9 p.m. on October 17, four Six Nations Fire Stations and firefighters were dispatched for a report of a Structure Fire at 3293 Third Line Road in the Six Nations of the Grand River territory.
A quick response was made with the crew of Pumper 3 arriving on scene at 9:08 p.m.
First arriving crew reported heavy smoke and visible flames with large periodic electrical arching from a utility structure with multiple natural gas meters attached and a large hydro pole with primary and secondary lines within close proximity.
It was quickly determined that the utility structure was housing an electrical transformer and approximately six to nine large electrical panels with multiple natural gas meters attached for a large commercial business and multiple large structures on the property.
Hydro Crews and Natural Gas Crews were immediately requested to assist. Due to the large periodic electrical arching and small explosions a defensive operation was initiated to protect the adjacent structures and await the arrival of hydro crews prior to attempting to extinguish the fire.
Concurrent with the defensive operation of the fire a primary search for victims was completed of the surrounding area with no victims being found. At 11 p.m. the fire was reported as being knocked down and firefighters began to hit small hot spots.
No injuries have been reported and no damage estimate is available at this time.
