Official launch of the Six Nations Justice Department

OHSWEKEN — The doors officially opened to the public at Six Nations’ brand new Justice Department on Friday.

The new branch of Six Nations Elected Council is located in the Iroquois Village Plaza in the heart of Ohsweken.

Visitors to Friday’s open house event were treated to tours of the facility and introduced to staff members.

The new department will be the on-reserve home to services for indigenous offenders, accused persons, victims and those otherwise dealing with federal and provincial justice systems. Indigenous victim services will be operating through the site as well as a new community standards division that will be working with the community to document current by-laws and develop new ones.

An in-house lawyer, Sarah Dover, will be on site for consulting with clients who may need further understanding of issues that arise.
