Teacher facing sexual assault charges

BRANTFORD — City police say a teacher from the Grand Erie District School Board is now facing two counts of sexual exploitation and two counts of sexual assault.

According to Brantford Police, the allegations were brought forward in April 2021 but occurred two decades ago. Despite the cases being historic, the accused was still teaching with a local school board and has been placed on leave pending the outcome of those charges.

Police are not releasing any further details at this time, including the ages or gender of the accused, in order to protect the identity of the victim.

In a statement, GEDSB said, “The circumstances surrounding the court proceedings for this case means very few details are available. Grand Erie cannot comment on the investigation or proceedings and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Grand Erie remains committed to supporting a safe environment in our schools. Counselling and mental health supports are available to students and staff should they want to use them.”
