OTTAWA – During the federal election, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked how he intended to undo Harper’s legacy. His answer was, “brick by brick”.
True to his word, Trudeau, announced that he has revoked Canada’s position on the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. That was one of the former PM’s most obvious slaps in the faces of First Peoples in Canada.
When the UN member countries were presented the United Nations Declaration (UNDIP) all but three countries sign on to it. They were Australia, the USA and Canada, all three being birthed by the British Empire, coincidentally. Later Obama signed on, as did Australia leaving Harper’s Canada the odd man out. After putting Canada in a bad light, he reluctantly signed on but only parts of it.
