HAMILTON – Peter Khill is charged with the second-degree murder of Six Nation’s father of two, Jon Styres. Khill was released on $100 000 bail Thursday.
A publication ban prevents the release of any evidence presented in court.
Khill, 26, was charged and placed in custody on Feb. 4 in connection with the shooting death of Styres, 29, of Ohsweken. Police reported that Khill found Styres attempting to steal his pickup truck from his driveway in the early morning where he was shot. Styres was pronounced dead when EMT arrived.
“I feel sick to my stomach,” said Lindsay Hill, Styres’ girlfriend, when asked for a response shortly after hearing about Khill’s release.
The incident has received a lot of feedback from social media pages like Facebook and Twitter in support of Khill’s release. Hill was asked to comment on some of these recent posts.
“If they’re saying they value a vehicle more than a person’s life, then I just feel sorry that they don’t know [better],” she said.
Khill’s $100 000 bail includes $50 000 from him and $25 000 from each of his two sureties.
