OHSWEKEN — Jamieson/J.C. Hill School held a parent engagement Cultural Open House on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 from 5:30-7:30 pm. The evening was planned, organized and supported by Jamieson Home & School.
All activities were held at J.C. Hill School. We had over 100 parents, students, staff and community presenters in attendance. Participants chose to attend nine different cultural workshops including Soapstone Carving, Storytelling, Lacrosse, Social Dancing, Yoga, Traditional Medicines, Corn Teachings, Mohawk Language and Beading.
Everyone enjoyed a meal of Cornsoup, Three Sister’s soup, Scones, Indian Cookies, Donuts and Strawberry juice. We would like to say a special thank you to Michelle Henry and Nicole Florist for the donation to our Traditional Medicines workshop. Our new cultural room grand opening took place on the same evening. Participants who completed their Cultural passport, the Cultural Scavenger Hunt and subscribed to the school’s Facebook page and Remind Apps were entered into draws for prizes.
