BRANTFORD – A pair of wins for the Brantford Blast this past weekend kept Brantford in first place with a 5-0-0 record so far in the early Allan Cup Hockey, Sr. AAA season.
Friday night in Dundas, the Blast melted the Real McCoys 3-1, and then Saturday night they flattened the Whitby Dunlops 6-2.
After Shawn Snider put the McCoys ahead 1-0 after the first period, the Blast took over.
Chris Leveille and Chris Rebernik scored back-to-back goals 19 seconds apart in the second period to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Jamie Williams notched the only goal of the third at 8:55 from Ryan Healy and Dave Russell to round out he 3-1 final score.
Saturday, the Blast required some stellar goaltending from Anthony Marshall to hold off the Dunlops who outshot Brantford 45-30.
Chad Spurr and Brandon Dietrich scored for the Blast in the first period while playing coach Mike Burgoyne added a third in the second frame. Whitby didn’t get their breaks until the third when John Scrymgeour scored at 3:07.
Brandon Dietrich and Ryan Healy answered at 3:37 and 11:25, before Jason McAuley netted a powerplay goal at 18:06. Spurr finished the game like he started it with a goal scored from Bryan Hamm at 19:23.
Whitby will be at the Brantford Civic Center Friday night, Nov. 22, in a game that will officially kick-off the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign for Christmas. They will then be heading to Welland to face the Whalers, Saturday night.
