Hagersville Hawks in a hold pattern

HAGERSVILLE – The Hagersville Hawks provided some excitement to an otherwise lifeless game as they fell one goal shy of an amazing comeback drive. In the end, the clock became the enemy as the final buzzer sounded to end the 6-5 Port Dover win.

The Sailors built up a 3-0 first period lead before Harrison Larochelle accounted for Hagersville’s first goal, with 45 seconds left in the frame.

Tyler Heisey made it 4-1 after the second period, and Steve Gore added a powerplay goal in the third to make it 5-1. Issic Taylor returned the favor with his powerplay goal at 9:01.

Eric Mueller recorded what would stand as the game-winner at 11:11. A final push saw Taylor, Hayden Smith, and Ralph Taggart closed that gap quickly as time was running out, but could not get the last goal they needed for an overtime session, worth one or two points.

Thursday, Jan 18, the Hawks travel to Dundas, and Saturday, The Port Dover sails into Hagersville, followed by Sunday versus Simcoe Storm. Wednesday, Jan. 24th, the Hawks take on Rangers in Glanbrook.
