HAGERSVILLE ‑ The first place Hagersville Hawks got some fine goaltending from Stephan Tierney to defeat the Port Dover Sailors 4-1, Saturday night at the Hagersville Arena, and they needed it. The Sailors fired a salvo of 42 shots at Tierney while amassing only 28 shots themselves, but four of them found their mark.
The win puts a cushion under their first place standing with 10 wins, two losses, and one tie game for 21 points; two points ahead of second place Glanbrook in the NDJCHL action.
The Caledonia Corvairs affiliates took the lead with Domenic Evangelista and Dan Mederios scoring in the first period. Matt Lemassuir added another late in the second on a power play from Evangelista and Cole Martin.
The Sailors got on the scoreboard at 3:34 of the third with Parker Watson spoiling Tierney’s shutout bid. As time wound down, Dover pulled Mike Caluori for the extra man, but the move backfired into Travis Bell’s unassisted empty netter.
The Hawks will defend their first place posting against the Grimsby Peach Kings Friday Oct 30th in Grimsby, before welcoming the Simcoe Storm to Hagersville on Saturday night.
