Bantam goaltender wins goalkeepers duel

OHSWEKEN – It was obvious very early that there would be a goaltender’s duel at Saturday night’s Bantam Rep game at the Gaylord Powless Arena.

For Six Nations, it was Caleb Martin against Patrick Allison in net for Ayr. Both very tall individuals and each the tallest on their teams. Both have very good lateral movement and each doesn’t leave a shooter much to shoot at with good angle perception.

The bottom line was a highly entertaining goaltenders duel which Martin eventually won with a 3-0 shut out performance.

There was no scoring in the first period despite plenty of chances from either end. It seems Six Nations players figured out that if they were going to score on Allison at all they would have to get more creative.

At 12:32 Thunder Hill flipped a pass out from behind the net to Blair Green who was standing at the edge of the crease. Allison got over to cover the post but Green flipped it over his outreached pad over his goal stick and under his arm into the net. Kevin Hill also assisted on the play.

Four minutes later Allison was stung with a screened deflection on a Ross Hill shot to make it 2-0.

Wyatt Williams closed out the scoring with the 3-0 goal scored with 12 seconds remaining in the game.

Meanwhile, although not as busy as Allison, Martin was more than up to the task facing everything Ayr could throw at him to take the well-earned shutout win for Six Nations.
