Blast and McCoys battle for playoffs

BRANTFORD – The Brantford Blast and the Dundas Real McCoys are in a titanic battle, but unlike in previous years, it’s not for first place, but rather to become the best of the worst, fighting for the last playoff berth.

They took a big step towards that goal this past Saturday at the Brantford Civic Centre by defeating the Whitby Dunlops 5-3 at the Civic Centre in Brantford.

Led by Derek Medeiros with three goals and an assist, the Blast still have a ways to go and short time to get there, presently sitting in last place, five points behind Dundas who have played one more game than Brantford. But time is running out. The Blast have four more games left, one of them a postponed game from last Friday, while Dundas has three. Last week, poor ice conditions caused the postponement.

This coming Friday night the Hamilton Steelhawks will be at the Civic Centre for a 7:30 p.m. date, then, on Monday, Hamilton hosts Brantford. Left in the regular season for the Blast are games set for Jan.23 in Dundas, ending the schedule Sunday Feb 25th against the Dunlops at the Civic Centre at 2 p.m.
