The Brantford Blast will enter the post season cold after losing the last two games of the regular season to the first place Stoney Creek Generals this past weekend.

The Blast couldn’t seem to fire it up Friday night at then Brantford and District Civic Centre and lost the first leg of a home and home series against the Stoney Creek Generals 9-5 in Allan Cup Sr. AAA Hockey. Saturday night in Stoney Creek they dropped a 5-0 decision.

The regular season culminated in a showdown between the first place Stoney Creek Generals and the fourth place Brantford Blast.

Friday night, a poorly played second period was the downfall of an otherwise pretty good effort by the Blast. The Generals scored first at 3:22, but Brantford’s Charlie Stephens put things right again at 7:10 from Jacob Ledyard and Derek Medeiros. Nathan Pageau scored late in the period to give the Generals a 2-1 first period lead.

Brantford got the large crowd into the game at 1:47 of the second period with Chris Knight tying the game at 2-2. From that point on, the Blast had to play catch up as the Generals attacked to net four unanswered goals to close the second period with Stoney Creek well ahead, 6-2.

That would prove too much to recover from as each team added three third period markers to complete the game with a 9-5 Stoney Creek win.

The fourth seed Brantford Blast meet arch rival fifth seed Dundas Real McCoys in a best of three preliminary round commencing Tuesday February 28, 7:30 p.m. at the Brantford Civic Centre.
