Hagersville Hawks in free-fall

HAGERSVILLE – Two third period goals by the Niagara Riverhawks took a win out of the mouths of the Hagersville Hawks Saturday night. Heading into the third period, the Hawks had the 3-1 advantage but could not hold it, sending the game into an unproductive overtime period and a shootout, which Niagara won.

On a bright note, the Hawks’ penalty killers were perfect, holding the fort against seven Niagara odd man advantages.

The game was marred by a late first period battle between Hagersville’s Nick Sherwood and Niagara’s Luca Petriello, with both players ejected.

The OT loss was still worth a point, but cost them a point as well. This late in the season, every point counts.

With two games left in the regular season, the Hawks are in free-fall, having lost four of their last five games. The Hawks remain in 5th place, only one point behind Glanbrook, who holds two games in hand over Hagersville.

The Hawks close out the regular season with two games against the Mudcats. The first is a Tuesday night game on Jan. 27th in Dunnville and they play again at home on Saturday night.
