SN Bantams full marks for 5-1 win

OHSWEKEN – The Six Nations Bantams rode to a 5-1 win over the Norwich Bantams in the four o’clock game Saturday at the Gaylord Powless Arena. Marlee Monture was stellar in the Six Nations goal especially early in the game when the Norwich Knighthawks were pressing.

A wrap around attempt by a Norwich player looked like it would go in, but Monture, not large in stature, got her leg pad over to the far post just in time to make the save in the first period.

Zach Martin got a gift handed to him in front of the Norwich crease when a centre pass hit something and fell at his feet, alone in the close slot which he wasted no time in delivering the 1-0 goal for Six Nations. Luke Martin and Donavan Monteforte assisted.

Norwich tied the game when Ethan Clement, from a bad angle went high on Monture over her shoulder for the 1-1 tie.

Six Nations took the 2-1 lead midway through the second period with Sterling Smoke finally putting the puck past Isaac Orth who was making save after save in the crease. Unfortunately for him, his dense could not clear the puck and Smoke was the beneficiary.

Monture robbed Hanna Buckrell who was sprung with a lead pass for a clear-cut breakaway with six minutes left in the period. Hunter Tobica was the recipient of another gift from the Norwich defence and produced the 4-1 goal for Six Nations after a goalmouth scramble.

Smoke scored his second of the game tapping a bouncing puck off the goalie’s pads out of the air for the 5-1 final score.
