UTICA NY – After dropping the first two games, the Haudenosaunee Men’s Nationals knew the task at hand and were determined to get things going early against England.
Tekoka Nanticoke set the mark only 1:10 into the game.
England got that back with a powerplay strike before veteran Cody Jamieson got involved, scoring he next two goals connecting from fellow MSL teammates, Randy Staats and Eli McLaughlin.
Three more came from the sticks of Kason Tarbell, Thomas Hoggarth and Noozy Thompson put them ahead, 6-1. England slipped another one past Jamieson but McLaughlin took it right back 22 seconds later and it was 7-2. McLaughlin scored again seconds later.
After such a slow start to the tournament, the Nationals couldn’t be faulted too much for pilling on. Staats, Nanticoke, Hoggarth, McLaughlin, Lyle Thompson and Hogarth again, Trey Deere, Longboat, and another by McLaughlin humiliated the Brits 18-2.
Cam MacLeod faced the swarm of Haudenosaunee shooters while Doug Jamieson and Warren Hill, who split the game in half, were having a much easier time at the other end. Shots totals said it all. That statistic was 69-25.
Canada faced USA in the last game of the prelims to determine the matchups for the next round.
