SIX NATIONS — It’s going to be a Six Nations, Peterborough matchup again this year for the Major Series Sr. A Championship and another trip to the Mann Cup, played in BC this year.
The Six Nations Chiefs eliminated the Brampton Excelsiors four games to one Thursday night with a 12-6 win at the ILA.
The Chiefs got productive quickly and left a 5-1 roadblock in front of the Excelsiors after the first 20 minutes of play. Randy Staats delivered on a powerplay to get the scoring started at 5:21, which was answered by Mike Mawdsley at 7:48.
Dhane Smith, Kasey Beirnes, Johnny Powless and Brandon Goodwin rounded out the first period scoring. Powless, Beirnes , Dhane Smith, and Stephen Keogh added more for the Chiefs in the second with Sandy Chapman accounting for the lone Brampton goal. Staats, Beirnes and Goodwin scored for the Chiefs in the third, Goodwin’s on a penalty shot.
Meanwhile the Peterborough Lakers eliminated the Oakville Rock in the other semi-final matchup. The Major Series finals begin Tuesday night, Aug. 18th, at the ILA before shifting to Peterborough for Game #2 Thursday, then back to the ILA for Friday night’s Game #3. Game #4 is in Peterborough, Sunday, Aug 23rd, and Game #5 at the ILA Monday. Game #6, if required is set for Friday Aug. 28th, and a possible Game #7 at the ILA , Sunday Aug. 30th.
Last season at around this time the Chiefs outlasted Peterborough in a seven game final series and won their second Mann Cup in as many years.
The Mann Cup is the Sr. A Lacrosse Championships of Canada, which is comprised of a Best-of-7 series between the champion of the East (Major Series Lacrosse) and the West (Western Lacrosse Association), respectively. This year, the WLA champion will host the series from September 4th-13th, 2015. Exact location is to be announced.
