Six Nations Rivermen leading

There have been a couple of stumbles along the way but the Six Nations Rivermen are back on top of the OLA Sr. A after Friday’s 10-5 win over the Oakville Titans at the Gaylord Powless arena. The 5-2 hold on first place is tenuous however with the 4-0 St. Catharines Saints only two points behind but holding three games in hand over the Rivermen.

Wayne VanEvery held the hot stick Saturday scoring three goals and assisting on six, for a nine-point outing beginning at 1:08 of the first period when he scored from Holden Vyse and Stu Hill.
The teams traded goals to end the first twenty minutes with Six Nations leading 3-2. Stu Hill and Roger Vyse contributed the other Rivermen goals.

Although the slower and older team, the massive experience on the bench paid off with smart plays and a lot of individual talent shining through.

The Rivermen owned the second period overwhelming the Titans 5-1 with goals earned by Roger Vyse, Wayne VanEvery, Holden Vyse, Stu Hill and Isaiah Kicknosway.

Vyse added his third of the game at 3:33 of the third period before a rash of six consecutive Rivermen penalties. Despite playing most of the period short handed, the Rivermen stayed ahead of the Titans for the 10-5 win. VanEvery closed out the scoring at 16:19, unassisted.

Vyse, (14G,21A) and VanEvery (9G,15A) are one and two on the league scoring list. The Rivermen travel to Oakville, Sunday night for their only game of the week.
