Seven Williams Treaties First Nations have entered a landmark agreement granting them a significant minority ownership stake in one of four small modular reactors at the Darlington New Nuclear Project. Federal and Ontario governments are providing loan guarantees of approximately $700 million — the largest collective First Nations investment in nuclear generation in Canadian history.
The communities involved are Alderville, Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Scugog Island, Beausoleil, Georgina Island and Rama First Nations. The initial unit is targeted for 2030.
