Naniamo News runs blatantly racist article
On September 22, 2013 thousands of people in Vancouver took part in a reconciliation walk to support the victims of residential schools, it was an emotional time of healing and even Dr. Martin Luther King’s daughter gave a moving speech. It seems all is well in Canada. The next day the Naniamo Daily News published a scathing article by Bill Ritchie condemning native people for living in the past and then attempted to soothe the Canadian conscience by claiming these perceived injustices are irrelevant because times were different in the 17th and 18th century; that they occurred before the concept of human rights had been invented. The article “No groups in Canada should get special status” has been removed from the website and an apology has been issued by Editor Hugh Nicholson. This is the second article by Nanaimo Daily News that has been condemned by indigenous nations (“groups” lol) as overtly racist and colonialist.

Jessica is daughter of Candy Harris and granddaughter of the late Barb and Phillip Harris. The contest runs until October 13th, 2013 at 11:59 p.m and the grand prize is worth $10,350 CAD. Hey Jude – In Mohawk goes viral
At the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena on Sunday, Karonhyawake Jeff Doreen dedicated a performance of the Beatles Song “Hey Jude” to Akwesasne Mohawk Teacher Teddy Peters and it was uploaded by local videographer Artie K. Martin to facebook. It then went rez-viral with 76 shares which is kind of a big deal around here.
