The Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council says the elected council has “crossed a line” by joining a class action lawsuit against the HCCC started by the Six Nations Men’s Fire. The lawsuit seeks more information on monies the Haudenosaunee Development Institute has obtained through land use deals.
Elected Council announced on June 9 it would participate. Men’s Fire representatives Bill Monture and Wilfred Davey are leading the litigation. The HCCC held a press conference outside the Onondaga Longhouse and asked both groups to reconsider, saying the band is trying to advance assimilation by declaring the HCCC has no say in how treaty lands are used.
