Six Nations and Brantford forces examine co-ordination following armed robberies and other calls
Six Nations Police Service and Brantford Police Service are examining co-ordination practices after a series of recent incidents near the territory boundary.
In early October, Six Nations Police investigated an armed robbery and related break-ins along Highway 54 in Ohsweken. Multiple masked suspects carrying firearms entered a business east of Chiefswood Road. A firearm was discharged during one incident. Suspects fled east toward Caledonia. No injuries were reported. Six Nations Police worked with the Ontario Provincial Police Forensic Identification Unit and increased patrols in the area.
Earlier the same period, suspects attempted robberies at other businesses on Highway 54 and stole merchandise and cash from a third location. Six Nations Police asked the public for camera footage and information.
Both services already operate mobile crisis response teams supported by provincial funding announced in late 2025. Six Nations Police received $240,000 over two years. Brantford Police received just over $207,000. The funding supports collaboration with trained crisis workers for mental health and addictions calls.
Brantford Police Chief Jason Saunders stated at the time that the investment strengthened capacity for timely and compassionate responses and continued partnership with community agencies. Six Nations Police Chief Darren Montour offered a public thank-you for the support and noted the importance of local mobile crisis teams.
The recent commercial robberies have prompted renewed discussion of information sharing, joint patrol presence near the border, and response protocols when suspects cross jurisdictions.
Highway 54 remains a frequent corridor for both services.
No formal new joint protocol has been announced. Both services continue separate investigations while sharing relevant information through existing channels. Increased visible patrols remain in place on the Six Nations side following the October incidents.
