CAMBRIDGE – At approximately 10am on July 17th, 2014 about 30 people gathered at one of the 400 integrity dig sites that Embridge must inspect and repair in order to continue the Line 9 project. I was recently given the opportunity to join the Dreamcatcher Foundation to report on the opening of four children’s playgrounds that the foundation has donated to northern Ontario native communities. A group of protesters from the Ojibway Nation of Saugeen #258 gathered in a protest outside of Kenora based lawyer Doug Keshan’s office on Wednesday June 4th and Thursday June 5th. They were there to state their displeasure with how they say their lawyer has been handling their community’s residential school settlements. They feel as if the elders who have gone through the legal system have been poorly represented, and are being deprived of the settlement money that should be their due.
NEW YORK – Six Nations Elected Chief Ava Hill and District #5 Councillor Darryl Hill attended the “Thirteenth Session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues” at the United Nations in New York City last week.
