To some it may seem that barricades, blockades and Indians covered in camouflage and bandanas gets us nowhere. Although, nothing gets the attention of Canada and its’ residents quicker than a good ole Mohawk barricade. If that is the intent, which it seems to be, then kudos to those who are willing to participate. However, the attention is not the only good that comes out these blockades.
Three years ago a couple of “Let’s Talk Native…” regulars and I made the trip to Albany to try to get some straight answers to a couple of simple questions. Matt Hill, Paul Delaronde and I met with New York State Senator George Maziarz, Republican from the 62nd Senate District of New York, to see if a State Senator could get an answer to a question that the State’s tax department refused to give us. We sat with the Senator and first queried him on his position on Native-to-Native trade and the State’s authority over our commerce and our manufactured goods.

It’s funny that an eagle comes onto Indian reserve and right away a white man screams “that’s my eagle.” If it was his eagle, I’m glad it’s free and broke its chains. There are 5-7 eagles nesting on Six Nations. Free eagles. Nature can still live here. It’s our eagle now to protect. Our job is to ensure it remains free. A 20-year-old eagle needs to be free. The dude needs to try a dog or a cat now. If this dude didn’t use “this” birds to hunt or feed his family, then they can’t call themselves a falconer. They are just captive. Init?

While analysing it, we took time to delve into the First Nations Control of First Nations Education Act announced February 7th, 2014, in Calgary.

All was quiet around Tyendinaga Sunday morning. Getting off at the Shannonville Road exit, I expected to see warriors on the roads and a heavy presence of police officers on standby, watching their every move. But nothing.
