Today I was thinking about how life can make many twists and turns. In my lifetime I earned two diplomas in two totally different fields of study: the first was for Paralegal Communications and the other my Chef de Cuisine diploma. It was as if one day I was sitting at my desk thinking of 101 excuses to not be there, and next thing you know I’m sitting at another desk making cakes. I realized it was never the desk that made me unhappy and left me feeling unfulfilled: it was the job.
One has to wonder and I’ve been asked many times, ‘Why did you switch?’ I’ve always liked cooking. I remember the first meal I ever made. I was 16, living on my own, working and raising my child. I made pork chops with carrots, potatoes, onions, and no seasonings. I thought that meal was the best in the world. It was something I had in me that I really found enjoyment from. I enjoy cooking. I enjoy making cakes. It’s a creative outlet and from what I hear, I am pretty good at it.
What keeps me trying to do my best is the people I create these cakes for. They are trusting me with a job to make someone they love, happy. When they pick up their cake and cry tears of joy I know I did a good job. That’s why I do what I do. I’ve found true honest happiness sitting at a new desk creating cakes. Through the twists and the turns of my life I have found it.
Today I would like to share with you a little treat I make for my minions.
