Indigenous Languages Act coming

OTTAWA — New federal legislation will put Inuktitut language speakers on equal footing with other language speakers across Canada.

The hopes lay in a new Indigneous Languages Act Ottawa will introduce this fall.

The bill was announced in 2016 by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Consultation groups across Canada are wrapping up in the next few months in preparation for creating the proposed act.
