Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club receives $39,000 grant from ALCOA Foundation

The ALCOA Foundation recently donated $39,000 to the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club. The grant was for the BE GREAT: Graduate Program that is sponsored by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. The program monitors grade progression and school performance of Boys and Girls Club members.

The foundation grant assists in the funding of tutors for the Akwesasne club’s afterschool program. The tutors help with homework and scholastic goals. Additional tutoring sessions may also offer educational support for community youth in need.

The grant money will also be used towards new computers and tablets withinthe Akwesasne club. There are 250 currently enrolled Boys and Girls Club members in Akwesasne.

The ALCOA Foundation previously volunteered to clean up the exterior of the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club campus. That experience moved the club to propose a larger foundation grant for this educational project.

“ABGC welcomes the ALCOA Foundation and thanks board member Kerry Jacobs, ALCOA employees Sharon Cree, Nancy Ransom and Laurie Marr for their guidance through the proposal; process,” said ABGC Executive Director Jessica Cree Jock. “This grant provides much needed equipment and tutors for the youth we serve.”
