Rivermen skin Sarnia Beavers

SIX NATIONS – After skinning the Sarnia Beavers two straight in the best-of-three quarter final round, the Six Nations Rivermen are now ready for St. Catharines when the Saints come marching into the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena for the second round of the OLA Sr. A playoffs. The Rivermen won Game #1, 16-7, Saturday night at the Gaylord Powless Arena in Ohsweken, and 14-7 at Clearwater to eliminate the Beavers 2-0 in the best-of-three series.

Led by 5 goals and 2 assists by Dean Hill on Saturday night, the Rivermen took charge right from the start, leaving Sarnia behind 9-1 after the first 20 minutes of play. The leadership of captain Cory Bomberry was evident as well, when he scored one of the prettiest goals of the year, at any level of the game.

At 5:08, with the score 1-0, Isaiah Kicknosway threaded a pass to a breaking Bomberry which was a bit behind him. Bomberry turned his body enough to catch the pass with one hand on his stick reaching behind himself, then pulled the ball to his forehand, scoring on Beaver’s starter Tye Belanger before stepping into the crease to make it 2-0.

Sarnia retired Belanger after Six Nations’ 8th goal replacing him with Greg Krstic who faired better, but in the end he and Belanger evenly split responsibility for Six Nations’ 16 goals.
Brennor Jacobs went the distance in net for the Rivermen.
