The Spirit of All Nations.
Earlier this year I wrote a story asking the question, ‘how does one decolonize’? Well just a few weeks ago the Oneida Nation did something fantastic in efforts to do just that. They held a nation wide meeting to discuss Oneida Nationhood, and welcomed all Oneida people to attend. Former candidate for Six Nations Elected Chief Yukiyatakenhas was there and shared the experience with me.
A new indigenous map has been introduced to the public domain which depicts the original territories and correct names of the the Indigenous people of North America. It is the work of Aaron Carapella, a Cherokee of Oklahoma who created the map from humble beginnings.
Since coming to office, the Obama administration has perhaps done more than any that has come before it to keep up appearances of good relations between the American government and its “domestic dependent nations”, despite the long list of grievances held by Onkwehon:we that are not reflected in the photo-ops and official press releases.
SIX NATIONS – Jamieson Elementary School held its annual Toy Bingo Saturday, which was very well attended by Six Nations and area Christmas Toy shoppers.
SIX NATIONS – Chief Bill Montour had to say after congratulating longtime Council colleague Ava Hill for her victory was, “I’m Free!”
If you have lived on Six Nations long enough, when attending community meetings, you will eventually hear someone voice this sentiment: “Our people don’t vote, it is not our way”. Take note.
Our ancient path involves consensus, and there seems to be consensus that we used to operate by consensus, thus explaining why voting can be a very emotional and controversial issue on Six Nations and on all other Haudenosaunee Territories within the corporation of Canada.
TINY TOWNSHIP: A reclamation of Awenda Provincial Park is now entering its 19th month. Organizers have formed a grassroots connection with neighboring Springwater Provincial Park which has also been occupied by members of Beausoleil First Nation.

OHSWEKEN – The Six Nation PeeWee’s came close, but didn’t get the win Saturday at the GPA against the Delhi Rockets. Instead, they had to settle for a hard fought, 4-3 loss.
