GRE Annual $250,000 Donation to Six Nations Language Commission

The Six Nations Language Commission extends our sincere appreciation to Grand River Enterprises (GRE) for their generous and ongoing support of language revitalization at Six Nations. For the last six years, GRE’s contributions have supported the creation of new speakers of our languages. Language revitalization is complex and demanding work that has been historically underfunded and GRE’s support during these last six years has been immensely important to our work.

Without it, our efforts to support adult immersion programming, develop resources and support grassroots community initiatives for those who cannot yet take adult immersion programs—could not occur.

For 2025-2026 Grand River Enterprises donated $250,000 and it was used to fund salaries for both our Onondaga and Cayuga adult immersion programs. The Onondaga program was our inaugural year utilizing the root word method curriculum and resulted in 10 graduates. Our rental costs for Onondaga and Cayuga immersion programs were also supported by this donation. We were also able to cover all costs to host our annual language day event on March 31st which drew a record audience of over 200 participants. The theme of this years event was based on exploring the use of technology in language revitalization.

This year, GRE has generously donated $250,000, bringing their overall contributions to language revitalization at Six Nations over $1.45 million dollars since fiscal year 2021-2022. We thank GRE for helping us ensure that our languages remain living, spoken languages for generations to come.

On behalf of the Six Nations Language Commission thank you again for investing in our learners, teachers, elder speakers and the future of our languages!!
