Canada has not honoured treaties, says PM Trudeau

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke in Winnipeg last week, and said Canada has failed for centuries to live up to the treaties it signed with indigenous people.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the work of the Truth and Reconciliation commission but said closing the gap for First Nations is “not a problem that is going to be fixed quickly.”

Trudeau noted that although the liberals have made a national investment into improving living conditions in First nations communities, it will take years of effort by all levels of government to facilitate needed changes.
