Throne speech missed opportunity for FN inclusion

TORONTO — Ontario’s indigenous leaders criticized the province’s throne speech yesterday, saying important issues like resource revenue sharing were not addressed.

Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day said the speech was a missed opportunity for Ontario’s liberals to make good on promises to include Firs tNations communities in the provincial economy.

Day said the province was built on treaties signed with First Nations people.

Day said full engagement of First Nations communities through resource revenue sharing and implementing the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation commission would respect those treaties.

Day said beginning a Treaty Economy to could generate a better Ontario for all.
