OHSWEKEN — The rumble you might hear over Ohsweken this Friday night is not a coming storm, but rather a rite of spring for race fans in these parts since 1996.
The long anticipation is just about over for fans, drivers and crews as Ohsweken Speedway prepares for its 23rd season of racing with May 11th’s Lucas Oil Test and Tune night, this Friday.
It’s a time when track officials, staff, racers and mechanics get to try each other on before the season officially begins Friday, May 18th. It’s also time to reconnection with the fraternity of grease monkeys and speed demons.
Due to ongoing construction and last minute cosmetics, the main grandstand will be closed to spectators. But, Ohsweken fans can watch Lucas Oil Test and Tune night live online free of charge via the track’s Livestream on the Speedway’s website.
Ohsweken Speedway’s 23rd season begins in earnest on Friday, May 18 with an excitement program including; Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars; Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars; Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.
Speedway officials are inviting, “all cars competing at Ohsweken in 2018 to test their cars on the lightning-fast 3/8-mile clay oval, including the track’s four weekly divisions, the Kool Kidz-Corr/Pak 360 Sprint Cars, Strickland’s GMC Crate Sprint Cars, Middleport Mechanical Thunder Stocks and HRW Automotive Mini Stocks.”
The pit gate will open at 5:00 pm for competitors at a cost of $25 per driver and $10 per crew member. Cars are scheduled to be on track beginning at 6:00 pm. Practice will alternate for divisions.
