(WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 23, 2014) – John Kane, Mohawk activist and national commentator on Native issues, has been named Interim Host of the long-running weekly one-hour radio program, “First Voices Indigenous Radio” (FVIR) at WBAI-FM 99.5 in New York City.

Federal criminal case highlights Akwesasne money laundering and informant network
SYRACUSE – The federal criminal case against William D. Humphries has now begun in Syracuse, New York.
The South Carolina tobacco farmer is accused of money-laundering on the Akwesasne Territory at the tribal class 2 Mohawk Bingo Palace, from 2006 to 2009. He has also been accused of conspiring to manufacture tobacco products without a license, as well as conspiring to commit wire fraud to avoid Canadian taxes. Humphries could face 30 years in federal prison if convicted of the charges.
Counties agree to fight contraband cigarette trafficking
Four New York county district attorneys announced an agreement to fight cigarette trafficking. The agreement was negotiated with Ohio-based R + L Carriers trucking company. St. Lawrence County, Franklin County, Chautauqua County and Suffolk County were the represented county governments.
