Health study reveals dietary problems
SIX NATIONS – A study conducted on the Six Nations territory has only reiterated what Haudenosaunee people have been saying since time immemorial: life is sacred, everything is connected and what affects one thing, affects us all. The new study has linked obesity with unhealthy diets, and environmental pollution with contaminants found in plants, animals and humans.
Innocent until proven non-status
Last week Six Nations Elected Council made a choice – after being presented with an official complaint – to send a letter ordering a young non-status man off the territory. There are many facets to this dispute; including details about what happened between the evicted and the family who lodged the complaint. My condolences to both parties. Your pain is evident and I’m very sorry you have had to walk through this.

HDI loses appeal – on the hook for $375,000
SIX NATIONS – Somebody is on the hook for $350,000 plus another $25,000 in court costs after the appeals court rejected HDI’s bid to have the fine assessed to named and un-named Six Nations people as well as HDI’s Aaron Detlor and Hazel Hill reduced.
The Two Row Wampum and the Rules of Law
An agreement between the Mohawk Workers and Guswenta Holdings Incorporated (a Canadian Holdings Company) has the Kanienke:haka and the Haudenosaunee community-at-large conflicted with the recent signing of that agreement.
The two row wampum can be used as a mechanism that will break down the logic, the positions and identities of our “subject” in the paramount question, “who is who?”, and “where they are coming from?” Once we know who is who, and where each stand, the law of each and the conflicts that exist may become clear.
Before the who, lets define the where, lets “discover” the foundations of the two possibilities, this and that, here and there, our rule of law and their rule of law.
Effecting Change from Within
If you have lived on Six Nations long enough, when attending community meetings, you will eventually hear someone voice this sentiment: “Our people don’t vote, it is not our way”. Take note.
Our ancient path involves consensus, and there seems to be consensus that we used to operate by consensus, thus explaining why voting can be a very emotional and controversial issue on Six Nations and on all other Haudenosaunee Territories within the corporation of Canada.
