OHSWEKEN —There was an important joint councils meeting Monday morning in Ohsweken. Before the meeting began, Brant County Mayor Ron Eddy and newly elected Six Nations Council Chief Ava Hill have a casual chat in front of a copy of the Haldimand Proclamation, which designated six miles on either side of the Grand River to the Mohawk Nation and others of the Six Nations.

The Haudenosaunee Wildlife and Habitat Authority will be harvesting deer this week as part of a controlled hunt at the Royal Botanical Gardens Arboretum.
From December 16-20 trails will be closed to the public as the HWHA helps the park control deer populations within its borders.

OHSWEKEN – The Six Nations Health Foundation was blessed with a $3,300 donation as part of a gala and talent show at the Six Nations Community Hall Sunday afternoon.
The Six Nations community, like so many others, was facing a crisis when it comes to an outdated and overburdened landfill site, which receives an average of 14 tons of garbage a day.
SIX NATIONS – A group of Six Nations Youth who love to skateboard are now in the planning stages of creating the community’s own skate park.
OHSWEKEN – Eight pick-up truckloads and a trailer pulled up in front of the Six Nations Food Bank full of canned goods and food to help refill the rapidly emptying shelves.
Ava Hill’s first actions as the new Elected Six Nations Band Council chief are already underway. “The first order of business is already kind of started, right now we are doing a lot of work with other First Nations on fighting this First Nations Education Act (FENA).” says Hill.
BRANTFORD – Saturday’s “Mohawks and such others”, meeting at Kanata Village was well attended with representation from other Haudenosaunee territories present after responding to the invitation wampum strings which runners from the Mohawk Workers sent out earlier.
CALEDONIA – Band Council Lawyer Lonny Bomberry chaired a community meeting at the Six Nations Community Hall last week and got an earful from around 30 people who were clearly not in favour of a proposed new housing development planned for 107 acres located almost across the highway from Kanonhstaton, the land Six Nations people reclaimed in 2006.
SIX NATIONS – The Six Nations Polytechnic main hall was packed out on Friday as Judges, lawyers, Crown Attorneys, defence lawyers, parole officers, and others within the Canadian Courts System gathered for a very special meeting.
BRANT — Public consultations with citizens of the Municipality of the County of Brant, has given Mayor Ron Eddie and his council a good feel for what the people want, regarding the turbulent negotiations between Brant and Brantford over a proposed land transfer that would involve 5,000 acres of the 7,000 acre Johnson Settlement lands, still under Six Nations land claim, removed from the control of the County and put under Brantford’s jurisdiction.
OHSWEKEN — An important community meeting is coming up this Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Six Nations Community Hall regarding an accommodation package being put forth by a Caledonia developer to build a large subdivision within the Haldimand Tract.
SIX NATIONS – Somebody is on the hook for $350,000 plus another $25,000 in court costs after the appeals court rejected HDI’s bid to have the fine assessed to named and un-named Six Nations people as well as HDI’s Aaron Detlor and Hazel Hill reduced.
